Badgerland Council is looking for volunteers interested in helping out at the Madison Service Center to help get re-registration packets ready in time for the Spring Meetings.   If you are interested and available on Thursday, April 5th from 9am – 12pm at the Madison Service Center, please contact Sarah Byer at byers@gsbadgerland.org or 800.236.2710 X 1143.  A light snack will be provided.  Thank you!

Badgerland Council Forever Green—Check Out Our New Web Page!

Girl Scouts Forever Green is a nation-wide Take Action Project.  Girl Scouts are turning 100 this year, for over a century, Girl Scouts have been working to protect their environment by using resources wisely.  To honor that, Girl Scouts will be leading their families, schools, and communities in improving the environment and protecting natural resources.  In Badgerland Council we are proud to announce that we will be reducing waste council-wide. Girls along with their families, friends and community members will learn about the effects of waste on our environment and help reduce the amount of waste being produced.

Last Chance to participate in a Virtual Camp Open House

Wed, Apr 18, 2012 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM CDT

This year we are offering a unique experience for our Badgerland campers and their parents. We are offering special webinars where you will get to meet the camp directors and “tour” the camp facility and program opportunities. Camp Black Hawk, Camp Ehawee and Day Camp Directors will have a 15 minute presentation and a 5 minute Q&A opportunity during the 1 hour webinar. Click here to register.

Volunteer Training

Troop Overnight Certification 1 is now available as a home study course! 

Troop Overnight Certification 1 is required for overnights taking place at a property with indoor facilities such as electricity and plumbing.  Download and review the packet and submit a Course Completion to receive the certification.  You must submit the Course Completion in order for us to record in our system that you are certified in Troop Overnight Certification 1. 

If you have little experience with the outdoors, have never built a fire before, or still don’t feel confident in your skills after reading through the packet, Badgerland Council recommends that you complete the training in-person.  You’ll learn from an expert, connect with other volunteers and have fun!  The current schedule for in-person TOC 1 and 2 courses is listed below.

TOC 1 at Hawk's Nest at Brandenburg on Sunday, April 15 from 9 am - 3 pm
TOC 2 at Kinderspielen at Brandenburg on Saturday, April 28 from 9 am - 2:30 pm
TOC 1 & 2 at Hawk's Nest at Brandenburg from 7 pm Friday, June 8 until 3 pm Saturday, June 9

TOC trainings cost $10.

Additional training opportunities! 

SWAPS- Special Watchamacalit Affectionately Pinned Somewhere – Adults will learn from an expert about SWAPS and how to make them with your girls.   Get ideas and plan your SWAPS for the 100th Anniversary with this fun event!  Sunday, April 15 from 1-3 pm at the Madison Service Center.  This training is free.

CPR Challenge - This course allows a person currently certified in Adult/Child CPR to renew their certification.  It is only made up of skills testing and written test with no allowance for review or practice with an instructor.  The instructor conducting the challenge cannot do any teaching, provide any corrective feedback or allow any practicing to improve skills during the challenge.  You may download the course book here: Sunday, April 15 from 1-3 pm at the Madison Service Center.  This training is $25.

Fontana Sports Scout Week 2012  
Monday, April 9th – Sunday, April 15th

Fontana Sports Scout Week will recognize all Scouts with their Boy Scout or *Girl Scout card by giving them 20% OFF ALL NON-SALE PURCHASES from Monday, April 9 – Sunday, April 15, 2012. See in-store for details.

Fontana Sports will also be offering FREE clinics to Scouts during the week. A clinic schedule is attached on the next page. Who’s Invited: Troops/Individuals with adult

Work on your Aware Award at this session as we investigate what is in our air, why it is important, and how all of us can do our part to keep it clean.  We’ll enjoy the wonders and calming powers of air as we explore the park.  Before we go we’ll make something to make home life more Earth-friendly.  All materials and a snack are provided with this program.

Volunteers Needed April 14 

Friends of the Arboretum, a nonprofit organization providing volunteer and financial support for the UW-Madison Arboretum is holding an annual fun run, the Spring Sprint for the Arb, on Saturday, April 14. The run starts at 10 am. Friends of the Aboretum is seeking volunteers to assist with event staffing.

Volunteer Opportunities for this event include:

·         Serving food and water to runners

·         Staffing the route (route marshalls)

·         Helping with the bike corral

Some of these positions will require groups working together (the bike corral needs 3-4 helpers) and some will be independent workers (route marshalls; could work in pairs).  Check the event website, springsprintforthearb.org, for more information.  The event is entirely within the Arboretum and all proceeds benefit the Arboretum--the only Madison event to do this! 

Volunteers need to arrive at 8 am and will be done with clean up by noon.  All positions are outside.

Children's Yoga

Experience the art of yoga for children.  Yoga benefits the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual areas of lives.  It improves balance, strength, flexibility, focus and self esteem.  This class will be full of poses, games and a whole lot of fun.
